‘West to East Adventure 2024’ - Mt Helena to Bunbury (aka home)

Kylea Harvey

And in the blink of an eye we’re home!!!

Another slow start this morning. No walk but Hazel had a lovely big yard to roam around in.

Phillipa & I chatted in Beryl as I packed up & then we were away.

Taking the windy back roads through the hills home we made a quick stop at Mundaring weir & then North Dandalup for a wee before the last short leg home.

As much as I’ve been dreading the end of this trip, when I hit the bend in the road exposing the Leschenault Estuary I felt the familiar sense of home & all was OK. I truly love where I live so until I have the option to travel full time, this is a bloody great place to be.

Refuelling for the last saw me follow thru on my Maxibon challenge where I was chomping down on number 25 as I pulled into my driveway. I’m officially sick to death of Maxibons. (Until the next roadtrip I suspect - we just need a little time apart to appreciate each other again 😂)

Convincing Hazel that being home was a good idea was a different story. I walked inside, felt the coolness of my flat, smelt the remnants of pre-getaway incense in the air, gazed at the ocean over the road, whacked on one of my roadtrip vinyl purchases & felt at peace.

Hazel, on the other hand, stayed in the bus for another 2 & a half hours while I unpacked, did two loads of washing & boogied. There really is no doubt how much she loves bus life.

And if you thought last night was our final night sleeping in the bus… you’d be wrong.

My sister Nicki & I purchased last minute tickets to go see a Salt Tree who were playing in town tonight. Nicki drove down from Perth to stay so I gave her my bed & Hazel & I slept in the bus in my driveway.

Putting on makeup for the first time in a month, wondering how long I was going to stay awake, we headed to Froth Brewery, had a bite to eat & surprised ourselves by staying till the end 😆 - literally looked at each other when the band said “This is our last song” & did a little dance cheer. They actually played three more songs & we’re so pleased we stayed till the end because it was the last songs that were the ones we knew & loved (the last in particular - Find our way - had us skipping back to the car)

A bloody great way to end a bloody great trip!!!
