‘West to East Adventure 2024’ - Crystal Brook to Kooma View Farmhouse

We didn’t have the most amazing sleep last night. 2 or 3 freight trains went thru & while it wasnt horrendously noisy, it did break my sleep.

Hazel’s also in a bit of an 11pm wake-up routine (similar to her 5am one) & isn’t satisfied until I’ve got up & opened the door for her to look out of (because opening the curtain just isn’t cutting the mustard 🙄🤪)

We retraced the 3.5km walking trail this morning before a 3 egg breakfast (thanks to Em’s chooks), Beryl cleanup, mentally waving at The Ghan as it rolled on thru & then hit the road again.

I had my sister give me a call just as I was driving out of town & she kept me company all the way to Port Augusta (110km) where I refuelled at one of the truckiest truck stops I’ve found so far. After bragging to a friend about deserving my ‘truckers badge’ I was advised unless I had The Doors Roadhouse Blues cranking then it was a no so as I hit the A1 (aka Eyre Hwy aka Fucking long road home) I had said song & subsequent playlist blasting & I now want my badge 😁

It was a strong crosswindy drive, which on the odd occasion ended up being a tailwind, and I spent a lot of the drive white knuckling the steering wheel.

A wee break at a roadside pullover bay turned into a dance party as I made myself dance for morning chocolate (I would’ve looked like a crazy lady to any passers by - of which there were many).

We made it back to the ‘Halfway across Australia’ mark which means we’ve driven the whole way across the country & half way back again in 3 weeks.

Around lunchtime we arrived at todays campsite - Kooma View Farmhouse - and what a cracker spot it is. A big open shed & a farmhouse that you can’t camp in but are welcome to wander through - which of course we did. So freaking cool. We wrote our names on the shed wall with coal to join the many other visiting taggers & had a chat with another traveling couple before retreating from the rain with a cuppa & my crochet in Beryl.

I cooked an early, inbetween showers, dinner but still ended up needing to drag out the umbrella 🤪 Then it was a FaceTime with a friend back home before another early night.
