‘West to East Adventure 2024’ - Echuca to Albury

We enjoyed a slow start this morning & did a little water tank maintenance. I’d topped it up the other day with water not really suitable for human consumption & whilst I don’t drink from it (only use it for dishes & hand washing etc) I was in a position to drain the tank & refill it with drinkable water - so I did.

Before hitting the road outta town, we popped back into town, grabbed a dirty chai from the bakery (nearly getting ripped off by being handed a small after I’d paid for a large) & went for a walk along the river so Hazel could get her sniff fix.

Had a slight moment of panic when I got back to Beryl & discovered a small pool of water under her. (Flashbacks to busted hose back in Kimba 😬) Thankfully it was a simple case of me not quite closing the valve properly after refilling so was able to close that off & get on our way.

Yesterday I’d spotted a decommissioned train covered in graffiti but I’d passed it before I had time to stop. (One of the downfalls of travelling solo is how much you miss because you’re also concentrating on the road) As I was on the same road I made a point of pulling over & grabbing a couple of pics because grunge is my most favourite photography subject.

I’ve been loving receiving messages from people letting me know they live, used to live or know someone that lives near where I’m travelling. I had a request to give a little wave as I passed the turn off to Kyabram on my way to Corowa. The little wave was given with much gusto Breeny 😁

It’s been bloody amazing to travel at my breakneck speed of 90km per hour again over the past couple of days after cruising no faster than 80 with my tyre & wheel issues.

When in Kimba (SA) I was warned by a dude named Ben that the roads in Victoria were shit & he wasn’t wrong. So many potholes 🫣🤪

Not rough enough to keep my snoring princess awake though. Hazel has been snoozing her way across the country, thoroughly worn out by the sensory overload entering her nostrils.

Taking, what felt like, backroads we passed more canola fields, a lake of tree trunks (aka Lake Mulwala) & came across more silo art.

Coaster Karaoke & one arm disco was brought to us today by Kyleas Dancefloor mix. A playlist originally compiled for my wedding & built around the requests of wedding guests. The marriage is dead but the playlist & memories of a bloody great day live on!

Crossing the border into NSW, we made a stop in Corowa to catch up with Amy, an online friend I met a few years ago in a shared coaching space. It was so freaking good to meet & hug in real life. It also wasn’t completely shit that I had to meet her at work which just happens to be Corowa Distillery & Chocolate Factory

The building itself is worth the visit. So cool!!

After the hug fest we made our way to Albury where we’ll spend the next 3 nights.

I don’t know what it is about this place but I LOVE IT. Of all the places I’ve visited both this trip & last year, this is the only place I feel like I could live. Is it the rolling hills either side, the river running through it??? I don’t know!!!

I pulled into an area along the river with a boat ramp & sculpture art walking trail thinking I’d have a late lunch & go for a walk with Hazel before figuring out where we’d stay tonight but we’ve ended up deciding to ‘stealth’ camp here because it’s beautiful & seems quiet & away from anything too built up. Let’s see how inconspicuous this big orange bus can be 🤪

I’m excited for tomorrow when I get to hang with my friend Anna (who I met through Instagram), go for a swim in the river 🥶, receive a massage & then meet up with my son & Uncle for some family time. 🧡
