‘West to East Adventure 2024’ - Fern Hill to Dimboola

It wasnt just me that was sad to farewell Em & Fern Hill this morning, the skies also put on quite the teary show.

Hazel & I managed one last wander up the lane before the rain came down & after admiring the red parrots flying around the property the past couple of days, I was stoked to find a little red tipped feather to add to my collection.

Packing up in the wet isn’t ideal but it got done regardless. Beryl needed a little oil & water top up & we were on our way.

We didn’t have a huge drive today (only 299kms) so we took our time & made a couple of stops along the way.

First being a fuel stop & a trip to Woolies in Wendouree. The gumboots finally got worn as I navigated a wet car park & into the shopping centre.

I love wandering up & down the Main Street of country towns (always in a clockwise direction - it’s a Kylea rule)) & the next clockwise wander stop was Ararat. Country pub, street art, town hall & back alleys with a view to the Grampians.

We had to make a stop at the Big Koala. I was going to say it looks like it could do with a bit of a facelift but looking at the selfie I took with it, I shouldn’t be so judgemental. I’m looking pretty rough after our packup in the rain this morning 🤪😂

Dimboola was our chosen dot on the map to free camp for the night & what a feast for the eyeballs of this snap happy soul it is.

The rain eased off not long after our arrival so Hazel & I went for a walk along the river & then into town. It’s got a cool vintage/retro vibe, the old holden dealership has been turned into a museum & there’s a fabulous gift shop - Dimboola Imaginarium - in the old bank building which was quirky AF.

I FaceTimed a friend back home before snuggling in the warmth of Beryl for a bit before having another big vege cook up because we cross the border back into South Australia tomorrow & I don’t want to hand over my green stash.

Tonight I’ll plot my next couple of fuel stops (I’ve said it before but the petrol spy app has saved me SO MUCH money) before calling it a night.

Todays tunes of choice had me back working thru Kylea’s blues roots folk soul mashup playlist. (Still haven’t got to the end of it yet)
