‘West to East Adventure 2024’ - Greenock to Crystal Brook

I woke this morning to a message from my bestie Sharon from Arli Design letting me know she’d hidden a painted rock at the campsite we’re staying at. Upon checking the clues on her Instagram page, it turned out she’d placed it in a tree right near where we’d parked Beryl so as soon as it was light enough I went hunting. Unfortunately it was no longer there (not really surprising as it was hidden a couple of years ago) but it felt cool to be following in her footsteps (or tyre tracks) none the less.

We went for another walk this morning enjoying a beautiful sunrise (what I wouldn’t give to chase new sunrises forever🧡) & the town before it woke.

Hazel waited patiently from the bed while I cleaned up, made a sad moccona coffee & gave myself a head massage & combed my hair with my sexy sandalwood finger comb. (Feels good - recommend)

Then we were on our way to tonight’s camp spot with a stop at Clare on the way. Strangely enough we chatted to a bloke at the dog park in Clare who was from Crystal Brook which is where we’re camped tonight.

Driving past vineyards and farm country we landed around lunchtime in the slightly dusty town of Crystal Brook (sounds shiney & wet but it definitely isn’t 😆)

Our free campsite tonight is close to town, which made for a nice walk upon arrival, but is also right on a railway line. The reviews on Wikicamps said it wasn’t too bad & so far we’ve only had 3 trains go by.

Hazel made a friend within 5 minutes of arrival. A young couple from Adelaide on their way to a wedding had stopped to use the amenities 🚽 & when the lady spotted Hazel it was love at first sight 😂 Hazel of course lapped up all the love.

After a wander thru town (which included checking out a rather cool vintage/antique shop) I made some lunch (complete with what will be my final hedgehog slice - I made sure it didn’t have a gross coating of coconut on the bottom before purchasing & can confirm it was 3rd time lucky) & what was meant to be a little lie down while I plotted my next lot of fuel stops ended up being two & a half hours borderline comatose. I’m feeling really tired. I’ve had to remind myself that we’ve had quite the trip so far & it’s been A LOT of driving which does actually take it out of you & it’s OK to have a little rest. So rest I am.

I noticed a sign saying ‘Crystal Brook walking trail’ from my vertical position on the bed so when we finally dragged our arses up, we got outside & walked the 3.5km dusty trail & investigated what I suspect might be a drain rather than a walking tunnel.

It’ll be an early night tonight (I already have my pyjamas on & it’s only 6pm) with hopefully minimal freight trains rambling on by thru the night. At this point I’m thinking I won’t even notice them I’m that tired 🤪
